When Can I Get Liposuction After Pregnancy?

When Can I Get Liposuction After Pregnancy?

Many women develop excess fat deposits around the body during pregnancy that can be difficult to remove with a healthy diet and exercise alone. Liposuction offers a means of permanently removing fat deposits from targeted areas of the body, resulting in a contoured and more defined figure.

In this article, we will discuss this minimally invasive procedure in more detail, and tell you when you are able to have surgery after having children.

At the CREO Clinic, we are led by Dr. Omar Tillo, a double board certified plastic surgeon and body contouring expert. Contact the CREO Clinic today and book a consultation with Dr. Tillo to design a newly contoured figure.

How Soon Can You Get Liposuction After Giving Birth?

Regardless of whether you have a C-section or vaginal delivery, you will need to wait six months after pregnancy and breastfeeding before pursuing liposuction as well as most kinds of plastic surgery. This gives your body ample time to recuperate and settle into its new shape post-pregnancy, so that you can better assess which areas of the body you wish to treat with liposuction.

How Soon After Having A C-Section Can You Get Liposuction?

During your consultation, Dr. Tillo will assess your healing to see whether you are suitably recuperated to undergo lipo.

Having a C-Section birth may increase the time it takes for your body to fully heal after pregnancy. As mentioned above, you will be required to wait at least six months after pregnancy and breastfeeding before considering treatment.

Should You Wait To Get Liposuction Until You’re Done Having Children?

Many patients opt to have liposuction prior to their final pregnancy. However, in general, it is best to have liposuction after your final pregnancy as the effects of pregnancy, especially multiple pregnancies,  on the body can distort the results.

Can You Get Liposuction While Breastfeeding?

At Creo, we recommend waiting  at least six months after breastfeeding before having liposuction. This gives the body time to recuperate and heal.

Before And After Results

Why Do People Get Liposuction After Pregnancy?

Pregnancy often causes individuals to gain weight, causing the development of excess fat in various parts of the body such as the abdomen, thighs and hips. Liposuction can target these areas, removing pockets of fat to sculpt and contour the body, restoring the pre-baby shape.

What Makes A Good Candidate For Liposuction After Pregnancy?

A good candidate for liposuction will be done with child bearing and should wait at least six months after breastfeeding before having treatment. They should also:

  • Be at their ideal weight, with a BMI below 35. Use our BMI checker to see if you are eligible for cosmetic surgery.
  • Be in good overall physical and psychological health.
  • Have realistic expectations about the results liposuction can achieve.

Types Of Liposuction CREO Clinic Offers

Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL)

Power-assisted liposuction (PAL) uses motorised cannulas to move around and vibrate to release fat deposits before suctioning the fat out of the body. This type of liposuction is preferred by many surgeons due to its effectiveness and ability to remove large amounts of fat while being less labour intensive..

PAL is ideal for patients who have previously had liposuction, and for those who wish to transfer the fat to another part of the body (fat transfer). This is because PAL gently harvests the fat, causing minimal damage to the fat cells collected.

Radiofrequency Assisted Liposuction (RAFL)

BodyTite is a minimally invasive form of liposuction, harnessing the power of RAFL technology to break up the fat deposits while tightening the loose skin simultaneously. For this reason, BodyTite is regarded as a highly effective body contouring procedure that does not require significant downtime.

Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction (Vaser)

Vaser liposuction is able to remove fat close to the muscle by utilising sound energy to break the fat deposits apart. This allows for more precise treatment with finer contouring abilities. Vaser is a great option for patients wishing to contour smaller parts of the body, such as the arms.

What Areas Can Liposuction Treat?

Liposuction can treat multiple areas that are often affected the most by pregnancy, including the hips and waist, thighs and stomach. In addition, liposuction can also be used to treat the back, arms and chin.

How Much Does Liposuction Cost?

The price of liposuction at the CREO Clinic can vary depending on the size and number of areas treated:

One area (small/face)One area (large/body)Two areasThree areasFour areas (or Lipo 360)
£3,900£4,500£5,900£7,900£8,500

For patients seeking to spread the cost of their treatment, CREO offers a range of financing options, including interest free financing for up to one year. Longer financing packages are available at varying rates.

Furthermore, using technologies such as BodyTite or Renuvion will result in additional charges.

Preparing for Liposuction After Pregnancy

Prior to surgery, you will have an initial consultation with Dr. Tillo where you can discuss the aesthetic concerns you have about your body after pregnancy, and the results you wish to achieve. He will perform a thorough examination of your needs, and will ensure that you are suitable for surgery.

Liposuction Procedure

Liposuction typically takes 1-3 hours to perform and is completed under sedation or general anaesthetic. Dr. Tillo will make a series of small incisions large enough to accommodate a suction cannula. The liposuction device then breaks apart and removes the fat via these incisions, before they are closed with dissolvable sutures.

Recovery Process For Liposuction After Pregnancy

After surgery, you may experience side effects such as swelling, bruising and mild numbness in the treated area. You will also be provided with compression garments to wear for the first six weeks after surgery to minimise swelling.

Most women require a week off work to give their body sufficient time to heal, and are able to recommence more strenuous activity 2-3 weeks after surgery.

What Results Can You Expect With Liposuction After Pregnancy?

It’s important to note that liposuction is not a weight loss or debulking surgery, rather a treatment to finely contour the figure once you’ve reached a stable weight. As such, liposuction removes the fat deposits in the targeted areas, creating a more toned physique with greater muscle definition.

Overall, you will need to wait for all post surgical swelling to dissipate before you can enjoy the full effect of your results. This typically takes between 6-12 weeks. After this, the treated areas will appear slimmer and more contoured.

Differences Between Liposuction After Pregnancy And A Mummy Makeover

A mummy makeover describes a package of treatments, including liposuction, that target the areas most affected by pregnancy and breastfeeding. These are typically a breast augmentation or breast lift, a tummy tuck, and liposuction.

Therefore, a mummy makeover is a more comprehensive surgery designed for mothers, whereas liposuction can target specific areas of fat in the body only.
