Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty at CREO

Labiaplasty, also known as a labial reduction or vulval surgery, is a surgical procedure that reshapes and reduces the size of the labia minora (the inner skin of the vaginal folds). A labiaplasty is a cosmetic procedure that is also performed for functional reasons.

Labiaplasty is an increasingly popular surgery that requires a great deal of skill and expertise. As a plastic surgeon specialising in body contouring, Dr Omar Tillo has dedicated his career to specialising and mastering cosmetic surgeries from the neck down.

Dr Tillo has performed labiaplasties numerous times, always customising and varying his surgical techniques according to the individual needs of his patients to produce a safe and aesthetically optimal outcome without risk of a botched labiaplasty. To do so, he often combines a labiaplasty with other cosmetic procedures such as lipofilling, clitoral hood reduction, or majoraplasty.

If you are interested in a labiaplasty in London or have concerns about the protrusion, thickness, pigmentation, or deflation of your outer and inner vaginal folds, book a consultation with Dr Tillo to discuss a bespoke surgical solution for achieving your desired result.

Why Get a Labiaplasty

A labiaplasty is an ideal procedure for women who wish to reduce the size of an enlarged labia, which can be the result of genetics, ageing, or childbirth. Patients choose the surgery for both functional and aesthetic reasons:

  • Functionally, a labiaplasty eliminates the pain and discomfort that some women experience when wearing tight clothes, playing certain sports, doing exercise, having sexual intercourse, and engaging in other activities. The pain and discomfort result from the friction generated when rubbing against the excess tissue.
  • Aesthetically, many patients wish to shorten the length of the visible inner tissue in favour of a ‘tucked in’ appearance or wish to achieve a more symmetrical appearance in the vaginal folds.

How Much Does Labiaplasty Cost in London?

In general, the cost of a labiaplasty in London at CREO clinic starts from £4,900. The exact cost of a labiaplasty varies depending on the surgical needs of each individual patient. Therefore, you will receive the exact price of the surgery following a consultation with Dr Tillo.

Labiaplasty Procedure

A labiaplasty is usually performed under local anaesthesia. Once the anaesthetic has been administered, the surgeon removes the protruding excess tissue of the labia minora using a scalpel to tuck it neatly beneath the labia majora (the external tissue of the vaginal lips). Finally, our cosmetic surgeon closes the incisions with dissolvable stitches.

A labiaplasty is an individualised procedure, and as such, the surgeon may use different surgical techniques to address issues unique to your body to produce your desired result. It may involve combining a labiaplasty with other procedures such as a clitoral hood reduction (removing excess skin from the top of the clitoris) or a majoraplasty (reshaping and reducing the size of the labia majora).

Recovery

During labiaplasty recovery, you may experience swelling, soreness, and bruising after the surgery, which should subside within the following two weeks. Most patients are able to resume most of their normal routine after this period, including going back to work.

However, it may take up to 6-8 weeks for the skin in the area to completely heal. Therefore, you will be advised to refrain from strenuous exercise, sexual intercourse, and wearing tight clothing until then.

Results

The final results of the labiaplasty become evident between 6-12 weeks after the surgery as the swelling subsides. You may even find that the swelling on one side of the labia dissipates quicker than on the other side. Once you’re completely recovered from your labiaplasty in London, you will be able to enjoy the permanent aesthetic and functional benefits of the labiaplasty.

Complementary Procedure

Labiaplasty and Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover refers to the combination of a breast augmentation and abdominoplasty surgery, and in some cases, a breast lift, breast reduction, or liposuction. This surgical combination aims to contour and rejuvenate areas of the body that have developed excess fat and skin following a pregnancy.

It’s common for women to add a labiaplasty to their mommy makeover as the labia is another area of the body that becomes enlarged and lax following a pregnancy. Undergoing both treatments simultaneously is convenient for women as they can combine the recovery period for all surgeries.

Labiaplasty and Fat Transfer

Fat transfer, also known as lipofilling, is a surgery that removes excess fat cells from one area of the body with liposuction and injects it into other parts for added volume. As with the labia minora, it’s common for women to develop saggy skin and lose volume in the outer vaginal lips (labia majora) as they age.

A fat transfer can correct this cosmetic concern by transferring fat to the labia majora, a surgery also known as labial puff. By combining a labiaplasty with a fat transfer, patients can rejuvenate both the inner and outer labia for a more comprehensive transformation.

Labiaplasty FAQ

Will I lose feeling if I have a labiaplasty?

The tissue excised during a labiaplasty is redundant and does not damage any nerves in the area. Therefore, when performed correctly, the surgery does not cause a loss of feeling or inhibit sexual sensation. However, temporary numbness in the area is a possible side effect of the surgery that should dissipate with the swelling.

Is labiaplasty common?

Labiaplasty is growing in popularity in the UK and remains the most common surgical procedure for vaginal rejuvenation.

Can you walk after a labiaplasty?

Yes, you will be able to walk shortly after your surgery. Although you may experience swelling and soreness in the affected area, this shouldn’t pose too much discomfort when walking.

When do labiaplasty stitches dissolve?

Your surgeon uses dissolvable stitches to close the incisions. You can expect the stitches to be gone within 3-4 weeks.

Is labiaplasty worth it?

Most patients consider labiaplasty in London to be a worthwhile surgery, primarily because it improves their quality of life in numerous ways. For example, after the procedure, women no longer experience irritation and chafing during intercourse, when engaging in exercise, or when wearing tight clothing.  In addition, women are also pleased with the neater ‘tucked in’ aesthetic appearance that a labiaplasty delivers.
