LineLase Laser Stretch Mark Removal in London

Stretch marks are a common cosmetic concern that can appear across the body when the skin is stretched or shrinks rapidly. This can be as a result of weight loss or gain, pregnancy or puberty.

Although stretch marks can fade overtime, they may not fully disappear. For this reason, many patients seek laser treatment as an effective means of improving the appearance of their stretch marks.

How Do Stretch Marks Form?

Stretch marks can form in any area of the body that grows rapidly, causing strain on the skin’s structure. They typically look like lines or streaks across the skin, but can vary in appearance depending on their maturity.

Stages of Stretch Marks

Stretch marks occur in three stages:

  • Stage 1 – Early stretch marks look pale pink/red in colour and can be itchy. Around the stretch marks, the skin may look flattened and thin. Treating stretch marks at this stage is most effective.
  • Stage 2 – The stretch marks appear larger in their length and width, and are usually darker and more pronounced.
  • Stage 3 – When the stretch marks have matured and the skin is no longer strained, stretch marks appear slightly depressed and irregular in length or shape. At this stage, stretch marks can be more difficult to treat.

Where Do Stretch Marks Typically Appear?

Stretch marks can occur anywhere on the body. However, they are most common in areas such as the abdomen, breasts, hips and buttocks as these areas are more likely to be impacted by rapid weight gain or loss, and factors such as pregnancy.

Risks of Laser Stretch Mark Removal

The risks associated with laser stretch mark treatment are low and are minimised by having a competent specialist working with the technology. However, in rare circumstances, risks include burns, scars and changes in skin pigmentation.

Removal Procedure

LineLase is a two-step treatment that combines the Fotona SMOOTH tightening wavelength with ablative resurfacing.

First, the non-ablative Er:YAG SMOOTH mode is applied to the treatment area, delivering intense, controlled surface tissue heating to stimulate collagen remodelling and initiate neocollagenesis (the production of new collagen). This helps to improve skin laxity and elasticity in the treated areas

The second part of the treatment uses skin ablation with a full or fractional Er:YAG beam, improving the appearance of the scars and removing superficial imperfections.

How Long is Recovery

As LineLase is a non-invasive and non-aggressive treatment, little to no downtime is required meaning patients often return to daily activities immediately. For more intensive treatments, however, patients may need to limit activity for 24 hours.

Patients may also experience some side effects such as a burning sensation, redness and/or inflammation in the treatment area. Side effects are usually mild and typically resolve within 2-3 days.

What Laser Stretch Mark Removal Costs

The price of laser stretch mark treatments can vary depending on the size and number of area(s) treated. In general, prices for a small area (size of the palm of the hand) at the CREO Clinic start from £425 with Dr. Gina Schoeman, and £250 with our nurse, Emily West. During your consultation, you will be provided with a bespoke treatment plan with a thorough cost breakdown and financing options.

Stretch Mark Removal Laser: Non-Ablative Vs. Fractional

Laser stretch mark removal treatments combine non-ablative and ablative Er:YAG lasers to achieve the best possible results.

Non-ablative Er:YAG

First, the non-ablative Er:YAG SMOOTH mode is used for skin tightening effects. This delivers effective, controlled tissue heating to stimulate collagen production.

Full/Fractional Er:YAG

The full or fractional Er:YAG laser is then used to improve the scar characteristics of striae and to remove surface level imperfections.

How Does LineLase Stretch Mark Removal Work?

LineLase combines the complementary Er:YAG laser protocols to treat different layers of the skin, improving the skin’s texture and laxity while eliminating superficial blemishes. Results from LineLase are most noticeable when used to treat stretch marks in the early stages of development, and can be repeated several times for continued improvements in the skins quality and texture.

Laser Stretch Mark Removal FAQs

Can you get rid of stretch marks with laser treatment?

Laser treatments can improve the appearance of stretch marks effectively so that they are no longer visible. However, results can take time to appear as collagen is slowly produced over 6-9 months following treatment.

Do stretch marks fade?

Stretch marks often fade over time but may not disappear completely. For this reason, many patients seek laser treatment to remove stretch marks.

What are the risk factors for developing stretch marks?

Stretch marks are more common in women who have a family history of stretch marks. Changes to the body that stretch the skin like rapid weight fluctuations, breast augmentation, and rapid growth in adolescence increase the chance of stretch marks developing. Women commonly wish to have pregnancy stretch marks removed to increase their body confidence after giving birth. In addition, steroid use can lead to stretch marks developing.

How many laser removal sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required can depend on the size of the treatment area and general condition of the skin. In general, sessions will be scheduled with 3-6 week intervals.

Is laser stretch mark removal painful?

Laser stretch mark removal treatment should not be painful, though patients may feel a slight tingling or warmth during treatment. Topical numbing cream can be used prior to treatment to ensure patients are as comfortable as possible.
