A well-defined chest can make a big difference in how you look and feel. For men in London dealing with gynecomastia, specialized surgery helps eliminate overdeveloped breast tissue, creating a more masculine, sculpted chest and restoring confidence.

Around 60% of men in the UK experience gynecomastia. Benefits of Gynecomastia Surgery

There are many functional and aesthetic benefits of gynecomastia surgery:

  • A firmer, contoured chest – By removing the breast tissue and skin, patients can enjoy a more toned and flatter chest. This can help to sculpt a more masculine aesthetic which many men desire.
  • Comfort in tight clothing – Many men with gynecomastia feel self conscious about the condition and avoid wearing form fitting clothing in order to hide their chest as a result. Following gynecomastia surgery, patients can feel more comfortable in their body to explore wearing tight clothing that accentuates the contours of their newly toned chest.
  • Easier to engage in physical activity – The enlarged breast tissue can cause pain, discomfort, and self-consciousness as it moves around when engaging in intense physical activities. Therefore, gynecomastia surgery can help men regain a healthier and more active lifestyle.
  • Alleviating back pain – In more severe cases, a disproportionately larger and heavier chest can give rise to poor posture and chronic back pain, which a gynecomastia surgery can alleviate.
  • Improved emotional wellbeing – Many men suffer from low self-esteem because of gynecomastia since the condition doesn’t conform to the traditional masculine figure. A gynecomastia surgery resolves these cosmetic concerns by providing patients with a flatter and sculpted chest.

How Much Does Gynecomastia Surgery Cost in the UK?

In general, the cost of gynecomastia surgery at the CREO Clinic starts from £6,500. As gynecomastia surgery is an individualised procedure, the price varies depending on the surgical needs of each patient, and will only be determined following a consultation with Dr. Tillo.

For patients wishing to spread the cost of their treatment, the CREO Clinic is proud to partner with Chrysalis Finance to offer a range of financing options, including interest free financing for up to 12 months, and variable rates for longer repayment periods.

What To Expect From Your Gynecomastia Surgery

The surgery itself typically takes 1-3 hours and is performed under sedation, local, or general anesthesia. The procedure involves making a small incision around the nipple, where excess glandular tissue and skin are removed. If needed, liposuction can also be used to eliminate stubborn fat deposits. Once the necessary tissue is removed, the remaining skin is tightened and the incisions are carefully closed to create a smoother, more contoured chest.

What are the Risks of Gynecomastia Surgery?

Although we take every precaution to minimise risk as much as possible, gynecomastia surgery, like any other procedure, comes with its own chance of complications:

  • Scarring at the incision sites
  • Contour irregularities, dimpling around the surgical site
  • Prolonged numbness or swelling
  • Hematoma or seroma
  • Infection at the incision sites

Male Breast Reduction Recovery

During gynecomastia surgery recovery, you may experience swelling, soreness, and bruising in the affected area, which should gradually dissipate over the first few days. To manage any post-operative swelling, you will be provided with a compression garment that you must wear continuously for the first six weeks after surgery.

In general, gynecomastia surgery patients can return to work after 1-2 weeks of recovery and usually feel able to carry out light, daily activities. However, patients are advised to avoid strenuous exercise until six weeks after the surgery.

Premium Post-Surgical Care & Treatments

At Creo Clinic, our commitment to exceptional care doesn’t stop at the operating table.

Every procedure at Creo Clinic comes with an all-inclusive aftercare package that has everything you need to facilitate a smooth recovery.

This package includes everything from basic garments to advanced treatments like laser scar treatment and manual lymphatic drainage  (MLD) massages — two essential components of optimal healing — at no additional cost.
This package is designed to help reduce stress and downtime while improving patient comfort, helping you enjoy the best possible results from your procedure as soon as possible.

Male Breast Reduction Results

Immediately after gynecomastia surgery, you will have a noticeably flatter and more contoured chest. However, gynecomastia surgery results become fully visible once the residual swelling completely subsides, which may take up to 6 months. After this, you will be able to enjoy the full effect of your newly toned and defined chest, free of excess skin and glandular tissue.

Furthermore, you will be provided with post-operative instructions by your surgeon, which will help aid your healing and minimise the appearance of scars. Your surgeon will carefully make incisions in places so that any scarring is hidden by the natural contours of the body. These scars should gradually fade and flatten to form faint, white lines.

Male Breast Reduction FAQs

What causes gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia occurs when there’s an imbalance between oestrogen (which promotes breast tissue growth) and testosterone (which counteracts it). This can happen at any age due to several factors:

Obesity: Increases oestrogen production and fat around the chest.
-Ageing: Lower testosterone and higher body fat can trigger breast enlargement.
-Puberty: Hormonal changes may cause temporary gynecomastia in teens.
-Newborns: Maternal oestrogen may cause short-term breast tissue growth.

What are the symptoms of gynecomastia?

-Tenderness or pain in the chest area.
-Chest is firm-feeling and can feel like a hard lump is underneath the skin.
-Rounder, more defined chest, like female breasts.
-Nipples look ‘puffy’ in appearance.

What is the difference between chest fat and gynecomastia?

There are several key symptoms that differentiate gynecomastia from chest fat. You can identify gynecomastia by the following characteristics:
-Hormonal imbalances can cause the breast tissue to swell and become tender or painful.
-The chest feels firm to the touch, and may present as a hard lump beneath the skin.
-The chest appears rounder and more defined, similar to female breasts.
-The presence of puffy nipples as a result of excess oestrogen.

Are the results of gynecomastia surgery permanent?

Yes, gynecomastia surgery provides permanent results since the removed fat and glandular tissue cannot grow back. However, hormone fluctuations from lifestyle factors, drugs, or weight changes can cause gynecomastia’s recurrence. Following aftercare instructions helps you maintain long-lasting results.

Does gynecomastia surgery reduce nipple size?

In many patients, excess glandular and fat tissue causes the nipple and areola to enlarge. Gynecomastia surgery often corrects puffy nipples and may also reduce areola size if needed.

Who is a good candidate for gynecomastia surgery?

Good candidates for this surgery typically:
-Are in good overall physical and psychological health.
-Are at their ideal weight with a BMI less than 30.
-Have been unable to tone the chest with diet and exercise interventions.
-Are above the age of 20 years old to allow ample time for the effects of puberty to stabilise.

Are there nonsurgical alternatives to gynecomastia surgery?

Some drug treatments that reduce the amount of oestrogen in the body, such as tamoxifen, can be used to treat gynecomastia in the early stages. However, established breast tissue won’t be responsive to this drug.
