Additional Labiaplasty Costs
Your surgeon may prescribe pain relief medication to ease discomfort immediately after your plastic surgery which you will have to purchase separately. Tests, scans, and chaperone services are also available at an additional cost if required. Finally, any other cosmetic treatments you may wish to undergo will be priced separately.
Is Labiaplasty Covered By Insurance?
As labiaplasty is a cosmetic procedure, it is not usually covered by the NHS or private insurers. However, it may be offered in rare cases – for example, if the vaginal lips are abnormal, if done to repair tears after childbirth or to remove cancerous tissue. Check with your insurance provider if you think you may meet any of these criteria.
How to Choose a Labiaplasty Surgeon
If you are thinking about pursuing labiaplasty surgery, it is important you find a cosmetic surgeon that is both qualified and experienced in this specialist procedure. Make sure you check your surgeon’s qualifications to ensure they are board-certified, with extensive training demonstrated in their medical background.
Additionally, research your surgeon’s experience performing labiaplasty specifically, as this will ensure they have honed the necessary skills and artistry to produce optimum results. Finally, do some research into the safety procedures your surgeon will take throughout your labia reduction surgery.
Labiaplasty Procedure
Due to the individualised nature of labiaplasty surgery, surgeons often use a range of different techniques tailored to the unique needs of their patients. In general, labiaplasty procedures are performed under local anaesthetic and take around 1-2 hours to complete.
After administering an anaesthetic, the surgeon removes the excess tissue of the enlarged labia minora using a scalpel, tucking it beneath the labia majora (the external tissue of the vaginal lips). Finally, the surgeon uses dissolvable stitches to close the incisions.
If you have any queries or questions about the procedure, make sure to discuss them with your surgeon during consultation.
Recovery
Immediately following your cosmetic surgery, you may notice some soreness, swelling, and bruising of the labia minora and labia majora during your labiaplasty recovery. This should gradually dissipate within the first two weeks of surgery. After this, most patients are able to recommence normal daily activities. However, it may take up to 6-8 weeks for the area to fully heal, and, as such, you should refrain from strenuous exercise, sexual intercourse, and wearing tight clothing in the interim.
Results
The time taken to see the final results of the labiaplasty surgery varies between 6-12 weeks following the procedure after swelling subsides. Following this, you should be able to enjoy the permanent benefits of your labiaplasty operation.
Is a Labiaplasty Worth It?
Labiaplasty surgery is regarded as a worthwhile procedure for women who report physical discomfort due to their labia or aesthetic concerns, boosting their quality of life. However, it is important that you have realistic expectations going into the process and, as such, are encouraged to discuss this at consultation with your surgeon.
